Basketball was the first sport added when VHTPA joined CIF Los Angeles City Section in 2004. Since those early years of playing in the Marine league VHTPA has developed into a competitive force in the CIF Los Angeles City Section. The team went on to win the Crosstown league in 2010, 2011 and host their own tournament for many years. Every year VHTPA has reached the playoffs through molding raw talent to maturity with quality coaching, primal workouts and developing a true love of the sport.
Head Coach Akinola Hume-Dawson
Dr. Richard A. Vladovic Harbor Teacher Preparation Academy wouldn’t be where it is today if it weren’t for Coach Akinola, who helps oversee our game strategy and advises on the best course of action. We really couldn’t have asked for a better or more qualified Head Coach.

JV Coach Ryan Vaughn-Demmings
Coach Ryan has been a great addition to the VHTPA basketball program since he started in 2023. VHTPA is happy to welcome on board a coach who strives to support the mission of our athletics program and develop well rounded, committed, and dedicated student-athletes.
